Nippon Express USA opens Chicago Logistics Center
Midwest complex will provide one-stop ground, ocean and air cargo services
Nippon Express U.S.A., Inc. ("NEU"; Kenryo Senda, President), a subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd., recently completed construction of its new Chicago Logistics Center East ("CLC East"), which, in combination with the adjacent Chicago Logistics Center West ("CLC West"), will be run as the Chicago Logistics Center complex.
The ocean cargo, warehousing, distribution, removals, information system, and travel functions scattered around various Chicago suburbs have been consolidated into the newly-built CLC East, located near the key Midwestern hub of O'Hare Airport. The Chicago Air Cargo Branch had been doing business at an adjacent site from 2008, and has now been renamed CLC West. Operating CLC East and CLC West as a large-scale complex - the Chicago Logistics Center, with a total warehouse area of 21,097m2, a total office area of 6,189m2, and about 200 employees - will allow NEU to offer unified one-stop service to the Chicago area.
Integrating the previously independent air cargo and ocean cargo container freight stations (CFS), commencing round-the-clock operations, consolidating distribution services to the Midwest region (Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Nashville, etc.), and shrinking lead time will all help improve customer convenience. By linking up the sorting and shipping operations of CLC West with the warehouse management system of CLC East, the Center will offer high-speed logistics systems featuring real-time inventory control for digital equipment, automotive production parts, and other air cargo requiring meticulous shipping schedule management.
As part of its environmental management efforts, CLC East will work toward obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, established by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) as an assessment of the environmental performance of structures. CLC East has sought in every regard -- the selection of the construction site, the recycling of building materials, the use of natural light through innovative design, the introduction of water- and electricity-saving facilities and equipment, the creation of priority parking for hybrid vehicles, etc. - to ensure its structures are eco-friendly.
Nippon Express will continue to develop systems for providing total logistics support in an environmentally-conscious manner to further improve customer convenience.
